Walking football is a popular, and growing, format of the game

Walking Football

No Sprinting. No Running. No Jogging.

Walking Football is exactly as the name suggests - you play football, walking. Usually aimed at people over 50, this inclusive, fun and sociable  version of the game is slow-paced but lacks none of the passion or excitement of the original game.

Whether you're looking to keep active, stay fit, or widen your circle of friends, Walking Football offers the perfect opportunity to do just that.

As well as the health benefits associated with most forms of physical activity; keeping fit and active, weight loss etc there are also many social health benefits that come with playing Walking Football.

Taking time to socialise, meet new people or even build confidence are all part and parcel of taking part in this slower version of the beautiful game.

There are daytime and evening sessions across the week and weekend, so there's a session to suit you. There is a women's only session too.

Walking football is football! The only difference between walking football and the traditional version of football is that running, jogging and sprinting is not permitted. Free kicks are given to the opposition when an opponent breaks into anything other than a fast stride.

Walking football for anyone who wants to play football at a slower pace, traditionally it is played by people aged 50 and over although it isn’t exclusive to this age and is open to anyone. Walking football is great for people who want to continue playing football at a pace that suits them.

The game, a slower paced version of the sport which is accessible to all regardless of age, health and ability, has experienced a strong organic growth in recent years and has acted as the catalyst in attracting many people back into football due to its various health and fitness benefits and a strong sense of fun and enjoyment.

They centre around the key principles of no running, low contact and no over head-height kicks. A key aspect is the use of sin bins for two-minute periods when players breach the no running rule.

To view the official laws of the game please see the Walking Football Laws of the Game documents below.
