Local sides exit FA national competitions
Hull City Ladies and AFC West Hull Gunners defeated
Hull City Ladies were the counties sole representatives in the first round of the Vitality FA Women's FA Cup with the Tigresses taking on FA Women's National League North counterparts Newcastle United at Barton Towns Easy Buy Stadium yesterday.
Despite being buoyed by a bumper crowd of over 500 people it was cup heart break for Chris Hames side with the Tigresses falling to a 2-1 defeat after extra time. Rachael Ackroyds 80th minute equaliser gave the home crowd plenty to cheer as did further attempts by Laura Bartup and Hope Knight.
Unfortunately though Hull City Ladies could not find the all important winning goal with Newcastle going on to score their second and decisive goal in extra time.
Also playing yesterday was MKM Hull Sunday Football League Champions AFC West Hull Gunners in the second round FA Sunday Cup. Unfortunately though there was more cup heartbreak as the Gunners suffered an agonising penalty shoot out defeat at the hands of Chapeltown FC.
The game finished 2-2 with Sam Leach the scorer for West Hull.
