Congratulations to Willerby Whippets who have been crowned East Riding FA Flexi League Champions with one game of the season remaining.
Competing in the league for the very first time Nathan Greens side managed to complete the season unbeaten with the Whippets amassing 23 points from their nine league fixtures.
Pushed hard by a chasing pack which included AFC Cell, Brownies FC, True Focus and last seasons Champions Springhead Tigers the league debutants scored 30 goals whilst winning seven of their nine games and drawing two.
Into its third season the East Riding FA Flexi League saw games staged at Beverley Leisure Centre and the University of Hull with teams playing 50 minute 11-a-side games.
Created to encourage more people to play 11-a-side football whilst providing opportunities for those who can't commit to Saturday or Sunday league football the league has enjoyed tremendous success with over 20 teams participating since its inception.
Games kick off at 7, 8 and 9pm with the only difference to traditional 11-a-side football being that games are 50 minutes instead of 90.
Participation and Communications Officer Chris Johnson said; "We are delighted that so many teams and so many players have taken the opportunity to join the league. Most pleasing has been the mix of players we have managed to attract with many people joining just so they can enjoy a game of football with their friends or work colleagues."
The new season starts on Monday 12th September with all fixtures set to be staged at Beverley Leisure Centre. It costs £30 to register your team for the league and then £45 a game which works out at just over £4 per person based on a playing squad of 11.
