Grimsby Corinthians Two are crowned Champions!

East Riding County FA Walking Football League

Grimsby Corinthians two come out on top in regional walking football league

Grimsby Corinthians Two were last night crowned Champions of the East Riding County FA Walking Football League.

The East Riding FA are delighted to announce that after last nights victories over AFC Tickton and Hornsea Town Grimsby Corinthians Two are this seasons league champions. A feat which is made more remarkable by the fact that they managed to complete the season unbeaten with a playing record of played 12, won 12, lost 0. A season which will live long in the memory of the Grimsby players will be forever remembered for the sides miserly defense and free scoring attack which led to an outstanding goal difference of plus 56.

Success for the club doesn't stop there though as the clubs second side in the competition Grimsby Corinthians One finished runners up in second spot with their only defeats of the season coming at the hands of the league winners. With our friends from the South Bank of the river claiming the top two places in the league it was left to Hull Pace Makers to claim the title of 'best side in East Riding' after they finished in third place on 18 points. Cottingham Rangers ended up finishing on 16 points after they suffered just one defeat more than Hull Pace Makers and AFC Tickton were gifted the 'most improved side' moniker after they managed to win four and draw two. A huge improvement on last seasons second bottom finish.

A special mention must also go to Hornsea Town and Tigers Trust who both competed admirably in all of their fixtures throughout the season and will no doubt go on to bigger and better results next time out.

Importantly no trophy will be handed to Grimsby Corinthians Two as a reward for their league victory as the league maintains its focus on celebrating participation over success. With over 90 people aged 55 or older taking to the field throughout the season the league has played a pivotal role in increasing the amount of people who are accessing the beautiful game in the twilight of their careers. As a result we are now looking for more teams to join the league and invite inquiries from interested party's. The new season is due to launch on Thursday 27th July so if you would like to register your side or require more information about the league then please contact Clubs and Participation Development Officer Chris Johnson on 01482 221158 or by email.
