The East Riding County FA are pleased to announce the launch of Men City. The County FA's latest attempt to get more more engaged with the beautiful game.
This exciting new programme will be formally launched on Sunday 16th April at the Roy West Centre, the home of the East Riding County with an 11-a-side football match between a Men City representative side and Yorkshire St Pauli.
Recreational Football Development Officer Chris Johnson said: “Men City is a fantastic opportunity for men in our region to take to the field play the beautiful game once again. We aim to foster a ‘club’ like atmosphere at our sessions and bring people together, regardless of their previous football experience. On offer will be weekly turn up and play football session that target specific members of our community. From football sessions tailored to men aged 50 and above to 5-a-side football for men of all ages, we will create an offer that provides members of the community with the opportunity to enjoy a kick about."
A pilot programme of weekly recreational football sessions has already taken place at Goals Soccer Centre in Hull with Men aged 16 and above invited to ‘turn up and play’ for a nominal fee. The result has been over 80 different people have attended the sessions with men of all ages, sizes and fitness levels coming together for one common goal; to play football for the sake of it!
CEO of the East Riding County FA Adam Lowthorpe said “The Men City initiative is a reflection of the changing needs of the football community. The traditional methods of getting involved with the game are no longer suitable for all with work patterns and family life often being obstacles. The East Riding County FA is firmly committed to providing football for all members of our community”.
