British Legion
History of the Cup
This competition was first played for in 1924 when a County representative team played Hull City in order to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.
Over the years the competition has taken on a number of forms, all of which have had the sole aim to raise funds for this charity and Help for Heroes.
For many years, and until quite recently, representative teams from all of the East Riding leagues have played on a knock out basis to establish the annual winner.
In 2015 it was proposed and agreed that a team from the Armed Forces would provide the opposition for a representative team chosen from the whole county to contest the fixture. We were delighted when the RAF’s national side were able to play the game.
