Walking Football

Thought your football career was over? Then think again! Walking Football is a slower version of the beautiful game and is great for getting people back playing the nations favourite sport.

What is Walking Football?

Walking football is football! The only difference between walking football and the traditional version of football is that running, jogging and sprinting is not permitted. Free kicks are given to the opposition when an opponent breaks into anything other than a fast stride.

Who is Walking Football for?

Walking football for anyone who wants to play football at a slower pace, traditionally it is played by people aged 50 and over although it isn’t exclusive to this age and is open to anyone. Walking football is great for people who want to continue playing football at a pace that suits them.

Rules / Guidelines for Walking Football:

• Players are prohibited from sprinting, running or jogging while the ball is in play
• Anyone doing so is penalised with a free-kick awarded to the other team
• Walking Football is non-contact and no slide tackles are allowed
• Played with a size 4 Futsal ball (if available) indoors or a traditional ball if outdoors
• The game is played on a pitch 20/40 yards in length and 15/30 yards in width. Although this can be changed to suit the venue
• The area can also be adjusted to suit numbers
• If the ball goes off the pitch over the touchline, the game is restarted via a kick, roll or throw-in (to allow for different physical capabilities) Note: It is strongly recommended to use a roll or kick in for indoor facilities
• It can be played indoors or outdoors to depending on weather and available facilities

Variations and game adaptations can be made to suit participants’ needs and capabilities.
