EAST RIDING FA CLUB OF THE MONTH - APRIL 2022

The East Riding FA Club of the Month award recognizes the clubs in our county who are going above and beyond to create a fun, safe and inclusive environment for people to play and enjoy football.

These clubs are doing extraordinary things to support their community and are supported by volunteers who work tirelessly for the benefit of others.

The winner of this months award is Holme Rovers FC who are credited with responding to the COVID-19 pandemic robustly and for developing an infrastructure which gives the club opportunity to grow.

Based in Holme-on-Spading Moor the club are Two Star England Football Accredited and provide playing opportunities for nearly 200 people.

Supported by a band of dedicated volunteers the club are proud to boast a full male player pathway although they recognise there is more to be done. Club Chairman Richard Brook said; "This September we are hoping to start up our first girls team [under 12's] and create another three mixed junior teams, bringing the total number of junior teams to 13. Which is great for a village our size."

One of the methods the club uses to attract new players to the club is a membership scheme which allows people to sign on for training purposes only. This allows the club to welcome new players and retain them even when playing opportunities may be limited.

The club have also been fortunate that the local community has responded to their call for more volunteers, something which has helped see the club grow from just one team eight years ago to 13.

Like many other clubs lockdown and the COVID-19 pandemic hit them hard with this compounded by the tragic loss of club stalwart Paul Harrison. Paul was a tremendous servant to the local community and took on a number of roles at the club. The club have rallied though and aim to mark Pauls contribution to the club with a memorial at the ground.

It's not just on the pitch where the club are making strides though. Off it they are hoping to increase the amount of parking they are able to offer, improve the clubs referee changing rooms and also create a club shop.

The club have also worked hard to improve the match day experience with increased signage and improved changing facilities creating a warm and welcoming environment for both home and away teams.

When asked what it meant to be named the East Riding FA Club of the Month for April Club Chairman Richard Brook said; "Its always to good to get acknowledgement for the hard work put in by all our volunteers and a big thanks goes to East Riding FA for making this happen."

Holme Rovers FC will now receive a nomination for Club of the Year at the 2022 FA and McDonalds Grassroots Football Awards.
