Improving Coaching in Grassroots Football

What is the FA Coach Mentor Programme?

The FA Coach Mentor Programme is an investment in grassroots coaching, offering on the ground support within FA Charter Standard Clubs, providing a process whereby a coach is actively engaged in being guided towards acquiring new knowledge, feedback, ideas or advice by a trained mentor. The aim is to support a coaching workforce in their own environment, both in training and in match-day situations.

The intentions of the Coach Mentoring Programme are to:

  • Improve coaching in grassroots football
  • Up-skill and support coaches to develop knowledge, confidence and skills
  • Bring the Future Game to life in grassroots clubs
  • Improve match-day behaviours
  • Retain coaches in the game
  • Support individual learning
  • Cascade the model/network of mentors and leave a sustainable legacy
  • Retain players in the game through better coaching practice

Who are the East Riding's Coach Mentors?

Gail Colling - UEFA  B FA Licensed Coaches Club member.  Female Support Community FA Mentoring Programme. FA Affiliate Tutor Youth Development Phase Coach and Regional Talent Club Coach Manager

Dean Jennings - Dean is a UEFA B Level 3 qualified coach and has also completed the FA Youth Award Module 1 and Module 2. Dean has also attended the FA's UEFA A licence preparatory course in readiness to achieve the UEFA A Licence.

Michal Pudjak - UEFA A (Part 1) currently in the process of completing the Part 2. I have achieved FA Youth Award and completed Module 1, 2 and 3 in 2014. I have also got Futsal level 1 and 2. I have been involved in football for 12 years as pro and been coaching at Grassroots and Academy Level for 7 years.

Ged Slater - Ged holds the FA Coaching Licence and has also completed the FA Youth Award Module 1 and Module 2. Ged is also a qualified FA Tutor and eligible to deliver the FA's Level 1 coaching qualification.


How does it work?

FA Charter Standard Clubs over the duration of a season have access to their assigned FA Mentor for a total of 50 hours. Consultation between the club and the mentor decide on where and how the support looks in any of the areas below.
