Pitch Improvement Programme

Access professional support to maintain and improve your grass football pitch.

The need for this service is more relevant now than ever, given the current economic times and the pressures facing grassroots football.

The FA Facilities & Investment Team have been working in partnership with the Grounds Management Association (GMA) to develop a Grass Pitch Improvement and Maintenance Programme that can be utilised by grassroots football clubs, organisations and local authorities with the simple aim of improving the quality of grass pitches. The key principles behind the service are to provide members of the programme with advice/practical solutions via a Grass Pitch Assessment Report which will also identify the key enhanced maintenance works required along with machinery requirements.

If a site is categorised as Poor or Basic on their Grass Pitch Assessment Report (GPAR) they are then eligible to apply for Grass Pitch Funding through the Football Foundation. This is a game-changing opportunity and for the first time ever, sites can get access to the funding they need in order to improve their pitches. The new funding package window opened on the 5th December 2019, and thus far sites in the East Riding County have been successful in obtaining £406,995 investment into Grass Football Pitches across the County. The funding opens up the opportunity for sites to invest in enhanced maintenance services, funded at 66% of the total cost and or machinery grants at 75% of the total cost.

 PIP Pitch Grading Report

A professional GMA Pitch Advisor is part of Grass Pitch Improvement Programme and will be available to conduct site visits.

If you believe your site would benefit in becoming part of the FA Grass Pitch Improvement Programme then follow the step by step guide:

PROGRAMME PROCESS

- Clubs complete and submit an Expression of Interest Form if they wish to join and commit to the 12 month programme.

- East Riding FA will coordinate the time and date of the first visit in conjunction with the selected club.

- East Riding FA will notify the Pitch Advisor of visits and all relevant details

- A report is produced by the Pitch Advisor with a copy for the club and East Riding FA.

- Club follows recommendations and actions.

- Feedback sought from club following agreed milestones and timescales, based on the recommendations provided by the Pitch Advisor.

- Should the maintenance recommendations not result in an improved pitch or surface, there may be some further improvement work required on the site and the club can discuss funding options with the East Riding FA Football Development Manager.

- East Riding FA will contact the club to organise a follow-up visit for 12 months after the original assessment date to gauge whether interventions have been successful, the standard of the playing surfaces have improved and offer further advice on next steps.

The Cost

The cost for the programme is £150 per facility which includes an initial visit and a report.
