The candidate list comprised of grassroots club coaches, coaches who work in Centres of Excellence and full time community based coaches and they all go away now to practice the delivery of the Level 3 syllabus and complete the rest of the tasks which form part of the course.
One of the candidates was ex England International and current Hull City player Nick Barmby who is combining his playing role with that of being part of Nigel Pearson’s coaching staff at the club. Speaking about his new coaching role, Nick had this to say “Coaching should be a continual learning process whether you are a coach at grassroots or professional level. I chose to take my coaching badges with the East Riding County FA to give more insight when I am working with the youth players at the club. It is really important to me that local talent gets the opportunity to represent this club.
A good coach sets the environment for the players to learn and all coaches should look to earn the respect of the players by their enthusiasm, knowledge and coaching ability and this will hopefully allow players to learn and develop.
Good coaches can have a really positive impact on player development and all coaches should focus on ensuring this is the case as bad coaches can have the totally opposite effect”.
The assessment for the Level 3 will take place in December 2010 and the ERCFA wish all candidates good luck for this.
