As early as the first 2 minutes Hedon took the leading role and scored by a well worked goal from Hedon. This set up a close fought first half with chances at both ends. Hedon’s right half, Ellie McKenzie was keeping the Malet defence working overtime while Malet were taking every opportunity to create chances to break the Hedon back four.
The score after 35 minutes ended 1-0 to Hedon.
Malet came out for the second half with more confidence and stamina to press for the equaliser. Again chances came and went with Hedon Keeper, Rachel Widdicks making a string of fine saves.
Hedon were not happy to just sit on their lead as their work rate looked sharp when the counter attack came. Malet’s pressure finally paid off with a wonderful taken goal scored by Jess Heath which produced an excellent finish with both teams playing their part.
The game was sealed with another cracking finish by Hedon’s Michelle Fletcher which ensured Hedon were to make the trip to Manchester for the Nothern Area finals to compete.
This was an exciting final, played in a good spirit and shows how Girls football has progressed in every department of Grass Roots football.
