On Wednesday 13th January Hull College’s U18’s girl’s made it to the semi-finals of the national English Schools FA U18 Colleges Trophy after a sensational 6-0 victory over West Suffolk at Hull University Sports and Fitness Centre. After 5 rounds of competition the girls have made it to the last 4 of the 72 teams that entered the competition and will now face Accrington and Rossendale away from home on Wednesday 27th January.
The girls made a strong start creating a few chances within the first 10 minutes. The sustained pressure eventually came off with Kayleigh James running through to calmly slot the ball past West Suffolks keeper, twice in quick concession. West Suffolk looked to respond with Charlotte Walker producing two fantastic saves to keep the 2 – 0 advantage. The girls moved up a gear for Jade Collier to score a fantastic long range effort from the right wing, which lobbed the keeper.
The 3 – 0 lead at half time gave the girls confidence to go and finish the game off in the second half. The back 4 coped well with the pace of West Suffolk’s front two, resulting in some fantastic tackles from centre backs Laura Wilkinson and Megan Coates, which allowed Jade Collier and Rachel Cooke to push forward. Kayleigh James continued with her scoring form to score another 3 goals in the second half. Catherine Sayers and Emily Sheriff replaced Stacey Spencer and Rachel Cooke.
