Senior Country Cup Round 2 - Filey Town v Easington United Reserves

10:18 AM, Monday, 16 November 09.

Despite the emphatic sounding scoreline this was real nip-and-tuck cup-tie for 90mins with both sides contributing to a pulsating affair. Despite being again depleted by injuries, Easington gave their Scarborough League hosts a real fight and the visitors’ youngsters never shirked a challenge in the face of Filey’s robust approach.

Jon Beattie gave The Eastenders a deserved half-time lead but Town leveled in the second half. Both sides had chances to win the game before Filey were presented a golden opportunity just five minutes from time, via the award of what United felt was a harsh penalty. Justice was therefore seen to be done when Kevin Appleyard made the save.
Unfortunately, lack of fresh legs bit hard in extra-time and after Filey scored early to make it 2-1, the Eastenders’ need to chase the game allowed their hosts the freedom to go on and score three more and give the tie a wholly unrepresentative scoreline.
