The Step into Sport programme is a nationally recognised volunteer programme for 14-19 year olds that aims to enhance the skills of those young people who are interested, not only in playing the game but in giving something back to the sport.
The Step into Sport project aims to provide a simple framework of coordinated opportunities to increase the potential for young people to participate in volunteering and leadership through sport whilst encouraging youngsters to ‘’be the best leader, coach, referee or administrator they can be.’’ It provides young people with the chance to increase their confidence as well as improve their skills, experience and knowledge in coaching and managing teams.
Volunteers are rewarded for the completion of 10, 25 and 50 hours of voluntary service within Charter Standard clubs which can then be progressed to achieve rewards for up to 200 hours directly from the Youth Sports Trust. Volunteering opportunities exist in the following four areas:
1.) Assisting in coaching and fun activities for young people.
2.) Behind the scenes – Running the football club / supporting the league.
3.) Marketing and promotion.
4.) Officiating – Running the game!
If you are between the ages of 14 and 19 and think that you would like to get involved in the programme, or you are currently volunteering and would like to be rewarded for the hours that you do please download and complete the attached registration form and learning agreement and return them to Gemma Thomas at the address supplied.
