Women head to Doncaster

England Women’s Euro 2013 qualifier against Serbia on Wednesday 23 November will be staged at the Keepmoat Stadium, home to Doncaster Rovers and Doncaster Rovers Belles. Kick-off is 7.30pm.

The two nations opened their Euro qualifying campaigns against each other on 17 September, when an added time equaliser from Vesna Smiljkovic denied Hope Powell’s side all three points.

England’s National Coach will be hoping for a better outcome in south Yorkshire and can be buoyed by her charges' comfortable 4-0 win over Slovenia at the County Ground last week. And before Serbia visit the Keepmoat, the Three Lionesses must first negotiate a tricky trip to Zwolle where they will take on Holland.

But Powell is already relishing the Serbian challenge.

"I have to give credit to Serbia for the way they played against us last time,” she said, “especially the way they came back and got the equaliser. They did really well.

“There are a lot of plusses I can take out of the game, though, and there are also things we can work on.

“We are looking forward to playing at the Keepmoat,” continued Powell. “The stadium is great, the pitch is great and we know from Doncaster’s WSL games that they will be excellent hosts.”

England have played at the Keepmoat once before, in March 2008, when attempting to qualify for Euro 2009. On that occasion they drew 0-0 with Czech Republic.

Julie Nichol, stadium manager of the Keepmoat Stadium said: “We are thrilled to be able to host this important match, and also to be supporting our national women footballers.

“Time and time again top names in the world of sport use the facilities here at the stadium, firmly positioning us on the world stage for a variety of sporting disciplines.”
