Barclays Community Sports Award
The Barclays Community Sports Award has relaunched for the 2011/12 season! The accolade is awarded each month during the Barclays Premier League football season alongside those for Barclays Player and Manager of the Month, to highlight the great efforts being made by many in community sport.
The award is open to any individual benefiting their community in any sport. Each monthly winner receives £1,000 for their group or organisation, a limited edition trophy and is entered into the end of season award to win a further £5,000, all donated by Barclays Spaces for Sports. The end of season award winner also receives a VIP trip to London to receive their award from Gareth Southgate.
The award process is open now! A single monthly prize of £1,000 will be on offer. If your entry arrives after 17.00 on the 12th of the month, it will be considered for the following month's award. For more information click here.
Street Games Hull
Street Games Hull programme provides a coordinated city wide approach to delivering neighbourhood sport, by building the capacity of partners new and existing to deliver sustainable, quality local sports opportunities. The programme builds on what is already working well in many local settings and brings together a wide range of partners committed to providing improved access to local opportunities for our children and young people. This is not just a project it is about instilling a way of working which enables the city to pull together and focus its investment into youth sport in disadvantaged areas, which helps to close the gap and makes sure that everyone gets an opportunity to be active.

Prince's Trust Development Awards
The Prince’s Trust are offering Development Awards to UK residents aged between 14 and 25 who
are part of The Trust’s four target groups (unemployed, in and/or leaving care, educational underachiever, offender / ex-offender) and have education, training or work-related goals. These grants of £50 - £500 are designed to enable young people to access education, training and work and could be used to cover the cost of courses, qualifications or training which will enhance their ability to gain employment.

Children in Need Funding
BBC Children in Need main grants (over £10,000 per year) are open to organisations working with disadvantaged children and young people who are 18 years old and under. There are no restrictions as to what the grant can be for. BBC Children in Need funds projects between one and three years. However, holidays and residential projects are limited to one year of funding at a time.
The next application closing date is Sunday 15th January 2012.

The build up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games has inspired us to bring you a round up of some of the latest initiatives from Sport England…Places People Play
Places People Play is a 2012 Olympic and Paralympic legacy sports programme which is to be delivered by Sport England. There are three parts to the programme:
Places…
• Inspired Facilities - upgrading sports facilities across the country. Clubs, community and voluntary sector groups and councils will be able to apply for grants of between £25,000 and £150,000 to modernise, extend or modify sporting facilities. £50 million of National Lottery money will be available to improve up to 1000 sports facilities from Summer 2011.
To help with the design of the Inspired Facilities programme, Sport England is consulting on the facility developments that community sports clubs and organisations need. You can read more about the funding programme and access the consultation survey at: http://tinyurl.com/6gcvtl5
• Protecting Playing Fields - £10 million of National Lottery funding will be made available to improve pitches and playing fields, and to bring disused ones back into use. The first of five rounds running until 2014/15 will launch in late Spring 2011
• Iconic Facilities – an enhanced version of the previous Sustainable Facilities fund, Iconic Facilities will distribute funding in three rounds until 2012. The first funding round has now closed with the second and third rounds opening in Autumn 2011 and 2012. This fund will support innovative large-scale, multi-sport facility projects that are regionally significant for at least two sports.

• Sport Makers - recruiting, training and deploying 40,000 sports volunteers to organise and lead grassroots sporting activities. Anyone over 16 can become a sports leader. This programme will run from Autumn 2011 for two years, with £4 million of National Lottery funding.
Play…
• Gold Challenge – an independent initiative to motivate people to take up some of the Olympic and Paralympic sports whilst also raising money for charity. Gold Challenge is a self-funding programme, but £4 million of National Lottery Funding will be made available to Sport England for them to invest in the sports delivery system if sports are unable to cope with the increased demand. Charities can also contact Gold Challenge if they wish to be considered as one of the charity partners which will benefit from the challenge. Gold Challenge will run until 31 December 2012.

Other programmes from Sport England
Other programmes from Sport England include the Sportsmatch programme, which has re-opened for applications for projects starting after 1 April 2011.
Sportsmatch makes match funded awards to not-for-profit organisations running projects at a community level which grow or sustain participation in sport. Funding which the group has raised from eligible sponsors will be matched pound for pound, up to a maximum of £100,000.
Sportsmatch 2012/13 is accepting applications for projects starting from April 2012. No awards will be made between December 2011 and 31 March 2012.

And finally, don’t forget that Sport England runs a Small Grants scheme, for community sports projects. Grants from £300 - £10,000 are available for new or additional activities such as a sports club expanding its age range by being able to buy extra team kit or pay additional coaching fees, or youth clubs working together with local sports clubs to get more young people playing sport. Total projects cost should not exceed £50,000.

The Equitable Charity Trust
The Trust is an education charity. It makes grants of around £1 million each year towards projects for children and young people under the age of 25 who are from disadvantaged backgrounds or disabled.

Cash 4 Clubs
Cash 4 Clubs offers all sports clubs in the UK the chance to win grants ranging from £250 to £1000. It is a simple scheme aimed at giving community clubs a helping hand and provide the opportunity to raise the money they need to invest in their club.
Avalible to new and existing affiliated clubs through a simple application form.
Examples of what they will fund include:
• Training for Coaches to ensure they are all level 1 standard
• First aid training for coaches and new first aid equipment

Wells Sport Foundation
The Sports Grants Scheme has been established to create a lasting legacy for future generations through the development of club sport. Grants of between £500 and £2,000 are available to sports clubs to support worthwhile projects.
They are looking to fund projects that support the development and sustainability of sports clubs. For example - projects that need equipment that is specifically focused on increasing participation, CRBs for volunteers, coaching qualifications and refereeing/umpiring courses. All clubs applying must have FA Charter Standard Status.
The closing date for grant applications is the 10th of every month.

Torch Trophy Trust
Torch Trophy Trust offer financial support through bursaries to help volunteers to improve their skills as coaches or officials. Bursaries are awarded to enable individuals or groups to enhance their knowledge in order to assist their club, organisation or community to develop their chosen sport.
Grants of up to £1000 are available to individuals or groups for the purpose of developing talent, increasing knowledge and improving skills whilst supporting grass roots sport and recreation.
In most cases, the minimum Bursary would be £100 and the maximum £1000 and it would not be for more than 50% of the total costs involved. As a result, these bursaries would only be applicable to Level 2 Coaching Courses and above. Exceptional applications may be considered for grants outside these guidelines.

People’s Postcode Trust
The People’s Postcode Trust can offer small grants of up to £2000 to non registered charities, and up to £10,000 to registered charities. One of the Trust's priorities is to advance public participation in sport and includes the purchase of sports kit or uniform, refurbishment of community buildings and new equipment.
The next round for the People’s Postcode Trust funding in England will be opening on Monday 9th January 2012, at which point you will be able to download an application form. That round will close on Friday 24th February 2012.
